Published in 1925 by the State Assurance Co. Ltd, Liverpool.
A history of Birkenhead Priory and the ferries from medieval times to the 19th century.
Information about services and historical background, but little on individual ferries.

The Rise and Progress of Wallasey by E. Cuthbert Woods and P. Culverwell Brown.
Published in 1929 by E. A. Bryant, Liverpool.
A history of Wallasey services.
Contains one chapter dealing with ferries, including some drawings.

The History of Wallasey's Famous Ferry Service, compiled by Capt. J.L. Regan.
Published c. 1947 by Wallasey Corporation Publicity and Entertainments Department.
A pamphlet about Wallasey ferries written by a ferry captain.

West Coast Steamers by C.D.L.Duckworth & G.E.Langmuir, 3rd edition
Published in 1966 by T.Stephenson & Sons, Prescot.
A comprehensive history is given in one chapter. The rest of the book covers west coast services, including those from Liverpool to North Wales and to the Isle of Man.

Ferries Forever by David Charters.
Published in 1984 by Merseyside County Council.
A short book for general use.

The Mighty Mersey and its Ferries, by Richard Danielson.

A small volume, originally priced at £4.95, provides an excellent overview, with plenty of illustrations:
